And the hardwork begins!!

Hey there!! Long time no see.

Just popping into to say, I will hopefully be popping by more often.

I have started my foundation degree in Art and Design and feel that this space, my blog, could be put to some good use.
I would like to use the space to record, analyse and evaluate, my work and my time.

I realise that I am now going to have to work extremely hard, as I will have to juggle, mommy work, uni work and household work, but am thankful for this opportunity.

Please feel free to follow/come along with me on this journey.

See you soon x

p.s, Any hints and tips will be gratefully received (heaven knows I will need them) :)

More dresses

I have just added a new dress over in my etsy shop.
Why not pop over and take a look, while I start to make some more.

I've caught a bug!!

It's grey and miserable in Shropshire at the moment and I have caught a bug!

Luckily for me it is the sewing bug!
Since making my Evi some little dresses, I have been hankering after making one for myself. I decided that since the pattern for Evi's dresses was so easy to follow, that maybe patterns weren't written by the devil and even I could possibly follow one.

I got out my first season GBSB book and started to follow the Tunic pattern. The first one I made, I had some problems with, but as soon as I got one out of the way they just seem to be flowing now.

I now have two finished ones and one half done one.

I have no pictures of the final products yet, but will update soon.

See you later x

Preparation

Preparation is the main event of this evening and all because of this...

Photo: This Saturday at the Fusion Gallery, Tile Museum, Jackfield. Soak up a bit of culture, browse quality arts and crafts and pick up a bargain. There's even a shepherd's hut on display. I think there's some Tile Workshops happening too.

I am very excited to be a part of the first ever May fair at Fusion @ The Jackfield Tile Museum.

Tonight is all about preparing all my tags and bags and writing everything on to my stock list.

I have poured myself a large glass of wine and will see you on the other side. Hopefully at the May fair.

See you there x

On my camera

Hey there, I thought I would pop by and show you some pictures from the weekend. We had beautiful weather, it was like being on holiday. Warm and sunny, even in to the later evening.

We had plenty to do this weekend with a family outdoors dinner and a visit to a museum at night and some sewing thrown in for good measure.

I hope you all had a nice weekend!
Now it's time to get back to business and finish off my orders.
See you soon x

Practice is much needed

Hi there, I thought I would pop in and update you about my foray into pattern drafting.
I decided to try and add a peter pan collar to some simple a line dresses I have been making for my daughter.

After spending days online looking for instructions/tutorials, I came across a couple that really did help.

final (Large)

The first site I found was adirondackinspired.com
I found this one very inspirational, if a little hard to follow, not because of the way it has been written, but because I am very new to even the easiest of sewing and dress making. However, this lady does link to another tutorial in this post.

This one I found much easier to follow, as it was video tutorials. I watched the videos and then did what she did, pausing the video as I went along so that i could keep up.
She also has an etsy shop selling supplies.www.GertielnRoses.etsy.com

Anyway on to how I did.....

I still need lots of practice, but I do feel I might be getting there and my next collar will be better. I will give myself more time and space to do it in. Hopefully then I will have a collar and a dress that I can happily send my little girl out in.

Here are a few pics

As you can see, much more practice is needed. but the basics are there, except of course for lining the collar up correctly and it being even : )

Anyway i'm off to get the sewing machine back out and have another go.

See you soon x

Peter pan collars

Right now For a very long time, I have been loving peter pan collars. I have just never been brave enough to try and make one myself.

Tonight that changes!

All these pretty little dresses I have been making for my Evi-Maria, I think, would look extremely cute with peter pan collars. I think it finishes them off perfectly.
So this evening I am going to be spending my time, researching different ways to add a collar. I have a few ideas already, but I think just a little more research is needed. I might even make a mock up : /

Wish me luck, I will report back with progress in the next couple of days x

Obsessed...

This may be turning into a slight obsession....

I have so far, since last week, made my Evi-Maria a total of 4 dresses.

And I have plans for sooo many more. Not just plain dresses, but dresses with stories, embroidered, appliqued, printed and many more...
Eventually I will be adding dresses to the stock of the Etsy and the Folksy shops. I will also be adding some other nursery and homeware item of the next couple of months so watch this space.

I will leave you with a few photos of what I have been up to.

Learning.....

Hey there, Hope everybody is good.

Yesterday I took my children to visit their Nanny, my Mom. What a brilliant day we had. It was mostly warm and my children spent many hours playing in the garden with my youngest brother. It was lovely to sit there and listen to them playing so nicely. Evi even managed to get Uncle Owen to play Barbies with her :)

Meanwhile my Mom and I got down to some serious work! My mom taught me how to sew a child's dress from a paper pattern. Something I have always wanted to do and something my Mom has promised to do with me, since I was about 5 yrs old.We spent hours in the kitchen with biscuits and tea, while we slowly worked through the pattern, with my Mom explaining every step of the way. The only thing I didn't do was take very many pictures. Here are the couple I did take.

I had a really good day and after my Mom had finished teaching me, she packed me off with an arm full of fabric and a paper pattern.

Right I am off now to go and cut out more dresses in my little craft corner.

Spring has sprung...

Hey, It's been a while, but i thought i would pop my head around the door and say hi. HI! I hope you have all been well?

Spring has sprung and I feel that i should get my blogging hat back on. I have been up to soooo much and should've recorded it all on my blog, but you know how things run away from you, and i never got around to it. Then the moment passes and it just gets tidied away into the could've been a blog post file.

The biggest news that has happened over the time I have been away, is....... I have reapplied for university and I will now start in October-ish, studying Art and Design. I cannot wait and wish I could start now. In the mean time I am doing as many summer craft fairs as I can and make up as many blankets as I can, so hopefully business can still go on, all be it at a slightly reduced rate :)

I'm so excited I can hardly contain myself. I have so much planning and preparing to do and I am not sure where to start.

I will leave you now and I will be back in a day or so with pictures of some of the work I have made recently.

Here are a few pictures on my camera.
